Kerala Ministry

Praise the Lord for His blessings!  Ministry here in Kerala is going well.  We've been preaching everyday and have had a wonderful time.  The people of Kerala are very hospitable and gracious.  It is always refreshing to see them again.

The Spirit of God has visited each and every time that we've ministered.  While emotions are not the goal in ministry, it is wonderful when God's presence is so strong that people are moved to tears, prayer and sincere worship.  God has done that again and again here, for which I am grateful.

As you can see on the map, Kerala is at the bottom of the southwestern edge of India.  It is definitely the greenest and most beautiful state I've seen in India over the years.  Delicious, tree-ripened fruits abound everywhere you turn.  Just outside the front door of the home where we stay is a black pepper plant that is almost ripe for harvest.  The beautiful little seeds are just beginning to turn colors.  I wish I could be here in another 3 weeks or so.  My wife and son NEVER cease to make fun of me for how much black pepper I like on my food!

Yesterday afternoon we went to a place where elephants are kept and trained.  It was a most unusual feeling to let them grasp your hand with their dextrous trunks.  I never knew how rough and prickly their skin was.  And I've never touched such a large piece of ivory.  There is no telling how much that is worth on the black market!!!!  I'm sure we could fund a lot of missions work with just one!  Really, though, they are incredibly smart and beautiful creatures that God made.

Thank you for praying for us.  We have felt God working mightily.

While I am here with three men from the USA, the sisters teaching the orphan children are across the miles in Tamil Nadu with the wife of my translator.  They are visiting Amy Carmichael's orphanage.  When I visited last year, I wasn't allowed to go through Amy's bookshelves and read the hundreds of books from the 1800's that fill her shelves.  But the ladies are getting to do just that.  I'm jealous indeed....
