How Are the Mighty Fallen!

The title of today's blog comes straight from II Samuel chapter 1. It also is apt to describe the Venezuela that we love so much and where we spent 12 years of our lives. But it wasn't always so. Read some of the headlines from years gone by:

"Venezuela, The Miracle Country!"

"The New York City of Latin America!"

"One of Only Four Latin American Countries Certified by the World Bank!"

Empty shelves everywhere in Venezuela.
Such are the headlines of yesteryear describing Venezuela, the Jewel of Latin America. Then came the oil tumble in the 1980s.  Then came the political upheaval of the 1990s. Now comes the end - starvation and hunger everywhere. Caracas is now the most violent Capital City of the World. Venezuela is the largest humanitarian crisis in the history of Latin America. The average person remaining in Venezuela today has lost an average of 19 pounds in the last year because of the difficulty to find food.

     We go on...

The last time Venezuelan authorities even reported the official statistics of the murder rate was in 2014. At the time, the murder rate far exceeded the rate of civilian deaths in war-torn Iraq back in 2004. Only 4 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa can say they have more robberies than Venezuela. Not much to brag about there...

Political dissent is stifled on every side by the strong
armed tactics of the Police and Military.

The violence wracking Venezuela has spilled over into the streets countless times. So many have been killed during peaceful protests until the demoralized citizens are in total despair. There seems to be no way out for Venezuela or Venezuelans. Those fleeing the nation to legally and illegally immigrate to neighboring countries as well as far and distant points on the globe make up the largest mass migration known in the history of Latin America.

This year alone the International Monetary Fund says inflation could top 13,000%! That is an incomprehensible blow to anyone trying to survive.

We could go on and on. But the bottom line is simple: Humanity without God has no hope in this life or the life to come. Venezuela desperately needs Jesus.

The work that began in the slums of Caracas so long ago while we were there continues to grow. Hearts are sincere in seeking for God's help, men and women are crying for God's deliverance. An anxious Savior is very near to those who will call upon Him with that kind of sincerity!

Please pray for Pastor Euclides and the dear saints in Caracas. By a miracle of the Lord, I will be meeting him in neighboring Colombia shortly. It will be the first time we have been together in over 10 years!

When I meet with Bro. Euclides in a few weeks, my goal is to encourage him in the Lord. Like all Venezuelans he has suffered untold hardship as the nation collapses into starvation and anarchy. A whole month's salary is barely enough to buy a small bag of corn flour and a few eggs. Due to this, I also want to deliver some financial assistance to him, his family and to the church.  If you would like to join us in this effort, we welcome your donations. Please mark the memo of your gift as "Tabitha Fund".

We thank you so much for your prayers. If you desire to help financially in this special project, you are welcome to send us a check via mail. Most of you have access to our mailing address.
